The Portugal Carnival is one of their top events and has its roots in the Catholic religion. It goes back hundreds of years and it consists of music, dancing, food, and costumes. There are parades and different activities to partake in. There can be styles of music from traditional to modern pop culture. In some festivities there are brass bands, "samba" groups, or Latin music.
The Festa do Divino Espirito Santo, "Feast of the Holy Spirit" or "Holy Ghost Festival" is a very important celebration that takes place. It is a Catholic celebration lasting three days. Before those three days are the seven Saturdays (Domingas) which lead up to the feast. Each of the seven days a historical or religious figure is honored. The actual feast begins on the Friday before the seventh Dominga. This is when the festivities begin such as music, dancing and food.
